p r a d a SS 1997 Chinoiserie, army khakis, sheer fabrics and empire waists, this collection was minimillist romanticism at its absolute best! Of course the “Slip” was also a prominent feature, sheer and transparent, Miuccia also embraced the late 90s obsession of underwear as outerwear. Although not a new trend, by this point in time it had become every “It” girl and fashion aficionados go to staple, and Miuccias were the most desirable! This collection is probably one of Miuccias most memorable and recognisable, sported on celebrities ( Gwyneth, Liv and Natalie Portman ) and Supermodels ( it was the “Off Duty” Supers uniform! A time when street style really began to become noticed, we were looking to our runway goddesses for real time inspiration, and Prada was one of theirs and the worlds favourite labels throughout the mid to late 90s ). Romantic and ethereal was Miuccia channeling a modern day Juliet ( Coincidently she designed the costumes for Claire Danes in Baz Lurmans modern interpretation of Shakespeare’s love story, Romeo and Juliet )? The campaign, shot by Glenn Luchford, was earily romantic. Staring my favourite, Amber, it gave me visions of a young woman captured by Viet Cong’s during the Vietnam war, waiting for her soldier saviour. She would remain captured until his long awaited arrival or die trying to escape! looking gorgeously delicate and fragile in Miuccias marvellous creations, this is one of my all time favourite Prada campaigns! .
